Accessibility
Everyone should be able to explore Sasquatchee, whatever device, browser or assistive technology you use. We are a small team still building the site, and accessibility is part of how we build, not an afterthought.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
What we do
- Use clear headings and plain language so pages are easy to scan and read.
- Add text descriptions to meaningful images.
- Aim for readable color contrast on our dark forest-themed design.
- Make forms, menus and directory filters usable with a keyboard and labeled for screen readers.
- Test pages on phones as well as desktop computers.
- Ask vendors to add descriptive text to their product images.
Known gaps
We are honest about where we fall short today:
- Open: the events map may be hard to use with a screen reader. The events list offers the same details in text.
- Open: some vendor-supplied images may lack descriptions. Our own site images have text descriptions, and we ask vendors to describe their product images.
- Resolved: videos without captions. The site has no videos right now; any we add will have captions.
- Resolved: low-contrast text on the events page. Light text on the dark forest background now meets at least 4.5:1, and the "See them on the map" button matches the vendor directory buttons.
- Resolved: hard-to-read View buttons in the vendor directory. They now use light text on dark forest (or forest on tan) with an orange hover, at least 4.5:1, and the compact vendor rows stack on phones.
- Resolved: small map dots. Event dots on the map are now three times larger and easier to see and tap.
- Resolved: unfinished legal pages. The Terms, Privacy Policy and Trust & Safety pages are complete, with working contact links.
- Resolved: registration form labels. Every field on the vendor registration form has a visible label, and the extra contact rows stack on phones.
We are working to fix these and will update this page as we do. Last reviewed: October 22, 2026.
