SASQUATCHEE

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Hundreds of eye witness accounts, from coast to coast.
This is for entertainment only, because we don't know if the mysterious creatures known as Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Abominable Snowman, Yeti, Skunk Ape, Ape Man exist. These creatures are of myth and legend and can cause fear and excitement when you share your own experiences. These stories draw you in and confuse the mind. Lets be clear you don't have to have had a real life experience to be a fan or need to know more about these creatures. If you're like me you have a story that doesn't mean you have seen or experienced an encounter with one. My story and the reason I have a Sasquatch website and a sticker on my vehicle window. Is not because I had a real life encounter, because it is not the case for me. My story starts on a youth camping trip. Not a camping trip per say. By the way this is how most of the scary experiences start. Okay I digress, this camping trip was not a family trip, but a trip to a youth camp Kookamunga, really I can't remember the camp name, All I know is that it was a summer youth camp that your parents send you to to get rid of you for a couple weeks. Really 2 weeks away from the parents at a summer camp with teenage "young adults" with crazy tricks to pull on scared little 8 to 10 year olds. Back in those days we were left with strange, crazy, well intention camp counselors. Where all day we were given tasks to complete and receive 3 inch round leather circles with a hole punched in the top and bottom to attach to the leather strap around our necks and ready to attach another special award for a task completed. These tasks of swimming, puzzles and making leather circle with 2 holes to complete the necklace that dangled from my neck to the floor with all my achievements. Very happy to have earned them by the way. These days I will never forget, swimming, hiking, playing in the woods. Every evening before the camp fire, we would fill our stomachs with fresh, healthy bites of food. Not, more like hotdogs, chips, fries, hamburgers like Mc Donald's makes, just colder and less fresh. So I guess we where setting our selves us for failure of future eating practices. The cafeteria was a large cabin with high beams of large logs reaching to the center point of the ceiling with quite a few windows on two walls with the kitchen at one end & the large wood doors on the other. Outside going down some steps to a large round seating area where we sat and listened to the stories about the area or whatever else the staff could come up with to keep our attention in front of the camp fire. I remember the stories about Native Indians, camp history, and the story I will never forget.
I had made a few friends with other kids that were left here like I was, so our parents could sow some wild oats without there needy kids around. My friend bunked above me in the cabin up the hill, down a narrow winding trail that looked more like deer trail, not a true path. Next to the entrance of the path was a restroom building with a trough style sink, for that evenings cleanup before bed. I think it was a few nights into this summer camp experience when at the evening camp fire a staff counselor started telling us of a so called true story that happened in the area near the camp. Back when the settlers passed thru. This group of travelers on horseback decided to setup camp for the night, just off the trail in a clearing at the bottom of a very steep wooded valley. The summer camp fire glowed bright on us while the camp staff counselor tells of these weary wagon train travelers sitting around a camp fire a lot like one we are sitting around right now, as they heard a weird whistling and yowl coming from the side of the hill above them. Looking up to hear where the noise was coming from the counselor looks back at the hill behind him with a flash light shining into the trees to give a sense of the what the travelers of the wagon train felt like that night. The story went on with the travelers hearing more and more of this sound coming from top of the hill. The travelers had traveled over long distances with coyotes, wolves and other animals making noises, but this was different. The noise had a very deep tone and seem to echo in the valley. Also a whistling noises seaming to resonate from different places on the hill. This whistling noise scared the horses, and the dog they had with them. At first the noise sounded like it came from high on the hill, but soon seemed to be coming closer. This noise continued for a while, so a member of the party shot off a round into the air to scare off whatever was making the noises, but this did not do what he thought it would do. The gun shot just made the yowling get louder and closer to their camp. Some time had passed and they heard yowling, branches braking and rocks hitting the ground just outside the wagons perimeter. The noise and disturbance was more than some of the travelers could handle, so a few of them decided to get there guns and make their way up the hill with torches in hand to stop this nightmare. As they made their way up the hillside, the people left behind could see the torches moving up the hill. The noise continued as they made their way up the hill, Then stopped for a few minutes, then they could hear men yelling and trees crashing, shots being fired. Loud roars from multiple place until they could not see the torches anymore. This story had all of us around this camp fire frozen and silently listening to every word that story teller was saying. He ended the story by saying that the other members with there guns trekked up the hill only to find the dismembered remains for the men. Limbs hanging over branches and tossed around the woods. No one knows what did this, but the Native Indians in these parts tell of a creature called Sasquatch also known as Bigfoot. Human-like, covered in fur and over 7 feet tall with 20-inch long footprints. They would render humans unconscious with just one touch and children who wander outside at night could get snatched by the creature, who might cook and eat them. This would be the first time I had ever heard of Sasquatch or Bigfoot. Right after this story ended that counselors tell us to get ready for bed. so we headed up thru the path to our cabin where we talked about the crazy story we where just told, I remember laughing and saying that was all made up. No way that was true. After hanging out in the cabin for a bit we were told that we had 15 minute get cleaned up for bed. This is where the story goes wrong, very wrong. Funny for some but not for me. It was very dark that night and my friend and I needed to go get cleaned up, you know brush teeth wash our face and hands, but we were running out of time. SO we grabbed our towels and our small bags of cleaning supplies and headed off down the trail. After about 10 seconds we realize we did tell our cabin counselor that we where off the the restrooms to cleanup. The rule was to let them know what we are doing to keep track of us. So we start yelling back to the counselor that we are headed down to the restrooms, we got the okay from the counselor. Ten seconds later out jumps a different counselor Tom from the bushes into the path. I can remember screaming and getting shoved into this crazy monster creature jumping out at us. My friend would say I don't know what shoved means. After ducking the grasp of ,at that time an unknown creature going to eat me. I've never ran so fast and screamed so loud. after about 5 seconds I realized the prank that had been pulled on my friend and I. I continued on to the restroom to try and pull it together. That was going to take a while. When done we carefully and silently hurried our way back to the cabin, knowing that at anytime something could jump out at us. It was lights out as soon as we arrived in our bunks. In the middle of the night I could remember having the worst sleep, and it didn't help that the necklace with my awards that I had hung on the corner of the bunk near my face looked like Bigfoot every time I opened my eyes. I remember thinking, don't move and I will be okay. It wasn't until morning that I realized that the Bigfoot that kept me company all not was actually that darn necklace.

I know this is not a sighting of a creature, but it sure made an impact on me and the legends and wonder of the creatures around us.

Lets explore the creatures, and there stories together. If you have a story to tell, visit our blog and tells us. If you have any questions please contact us sasquatchee@sasquatchee.com
